Explore My SDG Journey
From Arctic “Mars on Earth” missions to school classrooms, I use space as a tool to bring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to life for children and youth. My core focus is
-
SDG 2 (Zero Hunger)
-
SDG 3 (Good Health and Well‑Being)
-
SDG 4 (Quality Education)
supported by work on SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
My Story
I grew up seeing these 17 colourful sections not just as goals for the world, but as a checklist for my own journey. This page shares how my space missions, research and outreach connect to each SDG I work on
Why Space and the SDGs?
Space technology and exploration can help monitor crops, track climate change, support education and connect communities, which is why the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) calls this “Space for the SDGs”. Inspired by this vision, I use my analog missions and space training to show students how satellites, space farming, human performance research and Earth observation all link back to the SDGs in their textbooks and lives.
SDG 2 - Zero Hunger
In my analog missions, I work with concepts like hydroponics, greenhouse systems and crew nutrition, exploring how to grow food and plan meals in extreme environments. These “space farming” experiments help me explain to students how the same ideas—efficient water use, careful planning and nutritious food—can support food security on Earth, especially in regions facing drought, climate stress or limited resources.
SDG 3 - Good Health and Well‑Being
My research interests in human performance, crew psychology and health in polar and analog missions show how critical physical fitness, mental resilience and team well‑being are for space explorers. I translate those lessons into youth outreach about sleep, focus, stress, sports and yoga, so students can see that SDG 3 is not just about hospitals, but also about everyday habits that keep our bodies and minds mission‑ready.
SDG 4 – Quality Education
As a UN SDG Ambassador and young author, I use books, talks and workshops to make complex topics like Mars, Moon water and climate science understandable for school students. My goal is to support SDG 4 by giving first‑generation learners and young girls access to stories, experiments and role models that make science and space feel possible, not distant.
SDG 13 - Climate Action
My Arctic “Mars on Earth” mission and work with Earth observation data help me understand how fragile our planet is, especially in polar and water‑stressed regions. I use images, stories and simple experiments to teach young people how satellites, field science and daily choices link back to SDG 13 and climate action where they live.
SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals
None of this is possible alone. I collaborate with schools, universities, NGOs, space companies and international forums to co‑create workshops, talks and projects that connect space, climate and education. These partnerships reflect SDG 17 by showing how youth, teachers, experts and organizations can work together across borders for the same global goals.
From Childhood SDG Dreams to Space Missions
Age 9 – First SDG‑linked book
-
Wrote my first space book for children, connecting their curiosity about the universe with themes like water, planets and life, planting early seeds for SDG 4 and SDG 13.
Age 11 – First analog mission
-
Joined my first Mars and Moon analog missions, experiencing real fieldwork in extreme conditions and connecting it to food, health and climate challenges on Earth.
UN SDG Ambassador
-
Took on a UN SDG Ambassador role focusing on water conservation, quality education for girls and gender equality, bringing SDG messages directly to classrooms and communities.
UNOOSA‑aligned learning and recognition
-
Participated in UNOOSA‑linked initiatives like lunar sustainability and space law, building a deeper understanding of how space governance and technology support the SDGs.
Today – Sharing the journey
-
Continues as a commercial astronaut candidate and youth space advocate, using each mission and project to create new SDG stories, workshops and learning experiences for students around the world
Join My SDG Journey
The SDGs are not just for governments and organisations—they are for students, teachers and families too. If you would like to bring a space and SDG session to your school, club or community, or collaborate on projects, I would be happy to connect.
